Ilo Ilo - On a cinephile's eye

A heartfelt movie that is set in a Singapore facing economic crisis. It focuses on a family facing internal dilemmas and struggle to survive in a time when life is merely about surviving. A futuristic for a mother, a troubled salesman for a father and a stubborn and quarrelsome for a son, the film made an unexpected turn when they employed a Filipina for a maid. What Leo loved about the film is the realistic turn of events in the character's lives and how it leads them to create decisions based purely on the side of survival. He can relate to the film as a boy who used to be with someone so close to him while he's growing up. The film, for him, is highly relatable.

The director use of face as focal points to demostrate the struggle of all the cast is noteworthy. Getting a landslide score of 100% in rotten tomatoes is an achievement itself of the film.
